Loicia Ware, again with the bullet points

That’s What Friends Are For

by  Loicia Ware

My heart pounded frantically in my ears as we sprinted through the garage. My hands searched madly for the keys, slapping every pocket.

Keys, where are you keys….please…YES!!! SMASH! A windshield in front of us exploded!

“DUCK!” I yelled as I dragged Ben down. They caught up to us and we were in serious trouble. “Move! MOVE!”

We half ran, half crawled our way through the parking garage, searching for the car as bullets whizzed passed and windows shattered, raining glass all around us.

“Where’s the car Ben?”

“It’s … uh  … it should’ve been here.”

“You don’t know where the car is!”

“Uh, I can’t think with you yelling at me!”

“You can’t … what?” I stammered. “ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!” Blinded by rage, I ran straight at Ben and tackled him, knocking the wind out of both of us.

“You stole my car, got us in trouble, AGAIN! And now you can’t remember where you parked our only way out at?” I asked, gasping for air.

“I, uh … I got it!! Click the key fob!”

“The what?”

“The key fob, you know, the clicker!”

THE CLICKER! I hit the unlock button as hard as possible. Lights flashed four cars down. A rusted up piece of junk, but in that moment, she was the most beautiful thing in the world. We scrambled up from the ground and took off for her with the sound of feet echoing behind us.

“Get in! Get in! Get in!” I yelled at Ben as I jammed the key in the ignition.

SMASH!! The back windshield shattered.

“AWWWWWW!!!!” I felt a searing pain. I looked down and watched as my right sleeve quickly turned from white to red. “I’ve been shot!”

“Mark, I’m sorry! I’m so sorry!”

“If I die!”

“I know, I know, you’re gonna kill me!”

I growled at him as I threw the car in reverse and slammed my foot on the gas. BAM! We hit something or someone. No time to care; we had to go. I shifted in to first and we took off for the exit with bullets trailing in our wake.

“That’s What Friends Are For” has a bullet fast cadence equal to the storyline which is excellent in conversation and reasonable as to give and take, blunt, raw, flip and confident. I enjoyed the pace and the storyline which left me wanting to learn more about what led up to the action and what is to follow.

Okay I can breathe now! Wow – excitement on the go with glass flying everywhere. There has got a be a beginning and an ending to this story. Bring it on.

Lethal Weapon, or Bad Boys perhaps… I love the comedy in the midst of the terror. It lessened the shock of getting shot at (and ultimately getting shot!)!
