Good Advice 12b

Having followed the advice posted in 12a and slipped a brain enema in your ear to purge any memory of what a writer’s block is, do this to start getting words on paper.

Rather than forcing yourself to sit down and write for 15 minutes, set a timer and LIMIT yourself to just 15 minutes.

It’s counter-intuitive but face it: inspiration has failed to motivate and motivation has failed to inspire.

After minute #13 with nothing happening, a few words might bubble up. But when the flow has started, stop exactly at 15 minutes, mid-thought or mid-sentence. It is as infuriating as a blank page, but the next day when you sit down, you’re primed and ready to go.

This Good Advice is from the master:

Quit while you’re behind

It was a favorite technique of Earnestly Hemingway, who would always stop when he knew what would happen next, and then approach fresh the next day.
