Good Advice #5

Bullseye is Bulls**t

Do you have a target audience?  A target is the end station of a bullet or a smart bomb bent on destruction. You dehumanize your readers and objectify them when you dismiss them as merely targets. It is a terribly cynical way to perceive the people you want reading your work or following your blog.

We all carry a bullseye on our backs as the targets of rapid-fire online ad campaigns we never asked for. Writing and sharing writing should offer us sanctuary from commercialization.

Good advice?

Instead of labeling potential readers as your target audience, refer to them as your intended audience. If you put this mindset into practice, you will find yourself inviting them into your work with all your posts on social media or your email lists. Magic will follow.
