The Second Annual Literary Award Contest

This is a two-parter, and the winner of each will be awarded $500. Enter each or both prompts.

Part one: The First Kiss.

Need I say more?  Moisten the story with hope and anticipation and delivery of your first lip-lock  It could be the first kiss ever, or the first kiss to someone significant in your life, or even to a forgotten stranger.  Or your pet rock or goldfish. Frog Prince? Awkward? Life changing?  Do you want a do-over?

We’ll post your story on our website. To qualify for the prize, you must receive a comment posted by five different readers, or you can kiss your chances goodbye!

When all The First Kiss stories have been posted, we’ll pucker up for round two.

Part Two: The Last Kiss.

All about reflection. Did you know it would be the last?  Do you want a do-over?

Fact or fiction? Remember the words of Chief Bromden in One Flew over the Cuckoos’ Nest: “It’s the truth, even if it didn’t happen.”

Entry fee is $25, whether you enter Part One or Part Two or both, reduced to $15 if submitted by July 21st. Send us your entries and we’ll send you an invoice through PayPal. You can enter both or just one category, but the total combined word count cannot exceed 1,000 words, meaning if you enter both categories and part one is 650 words, your entry for part two can’t exceed 350 words.

Time line:

All entries must be received by November 1rst, 2023

All stories will be posted by December 15th, 2023

Winners will be announced on December 24th and paid on the 25th.  Merry Christmas!

  • 12-point Times New Roman font
  • Title, and author at the top (will be displayed if published)
  • Author email and contact info (will not display)
  • Optional: link to your website and a request to post the link at the end of your story.
