to our finals, with her take on the prompt “This changes everything”.  That leaves only Miryam Howard to send in her tail, as Ashley has done.

Are You Positive?

“Paul?” Elizabeth said quietly. She wasn’t entirely sure how to start the conversation. He seemed way too focused on his soggy roast beef sandwich.

“We need to talk,” she blurted out. Now that got his attention.

“What about, babe?” he said. “Everything ok?”

“Well…I know we talked about waiting to start a family…” Elizabeth said. Paul looked nervous now.

“Uh huh,” he mumbled.

“I don’t know what to say,” she continued. “It’s just that…well…I feel like this should be a decision we make together.” Paul was trying to connect the dots.

“Well this changes everything,” he said. “But I guess I think we should keep it.”

Elizabeth’s eyes lit up. “Really? We have to pick a name,” she said. Paul tried to process the situation.  “I’ll be right back!” Elizabeth disappeared through the front door and returned a moment later with a beat up cardboard box. Paul was officially confused.

“What’s that?” he asked.

“It’s the puppy I was talking about,” Elizabeth squealed. Just then, two floppy golden ears and big brown eyes peeped up out of the box.

“A puppy?” Paul said, realizing that he had jumped to the wrong conclusion. “A puppy!” he said again. Thank God.

    Nicely set up and delivered.  Of course, it didn’t hurt that Thorn chose a picture to help us along the path you wanted us first to follow.
