No, not the old famous cowboy, but Josey Wales, our ever faithful dog. Ridiculous as it may be to mourn a pet, I confess I do, and very deeply. Twelve and a half years is a long time, and now I come down the stairs each morning for breakfast to a sad and empty kitchen.
True, she was an utterly moronic creature at times, but that simply made her all the better. Hilarious, loving and completely devoted to our family. She loyally buff-woofed at the postman, she wouldn’t move a muscle to eat her dinner untill she was told she could do so, she stunk to high heaven and left tumble-weed style furballs in every corner of the house.
She was a part of our little family, and to say goodbye was very hard.
So here’s to you Josey Wales, the best of all dogs.
So sad. For the rest of you, I myself have had the pleasure of Josey's company on at least four occasions when I have crossed the pond to Melton Mowbray. Let's hope that the post is delivered in heaven, and Josey gets to give a good buff woof to the postman every day.
*huggles* I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I hope doing this cartoon provided you as much comfort as it offered us humor and sweetness.
And I like the idea of a heaven with no reality TV. I can't imagine heaven with it!
We are all very sad to have said our goodbye to Wales, but she was a poorly, knackered old thing and was ready for the big sleep. We still miss her terribly though! (Even Wuss 'n Boots)
Dearest Ruthie,
My heart goes out to you for the loss of your dear Josey Wales. Dogs are so unconditionally loving. Okay, they may require treats and pats–but that's the least we can offer our canine companions. As a former veterinarian, I have witnessed so many passings. It is always sad. Be happy and proud that you gave her a good home for so long. Our dogs and kitties are what keep us connected to the rest of the animals. They remind us that they are not just part of our family–we are part of their pack.
With sympathy,
Diana
Thank you Diana, I admit we miss her desperately, she was the funniest fat thing we had and we loved her a lot. Now planning to plant a little tree in the garden for her 🙂
Yeh, I feel she'll always be around somewhere when I included her in my work 🙂 And yes, I am an avid protester against reality tv I just hate the stuff!!
